Andy Warhol-Themed Objects

In honor of the recent unveiling of the Andy Monument in Union Square, NYC, (and of Em’s return home later this week) here are a selection of fun Andy Warhol themed objects. Oh, and you can sing along to Stereo Total’s Andy Warhol, (soundtrack here to some Andy footage) while perusing the items.

Typographied Objects

Typography ObjectsPretty much anything with nice typography is bound to catch my eye. And pretty much any object that uses typography as an integral part of its design is likely to win me over. Here are but a very few:

Diseños Enredados (Tangled Designs)

Ivana Crivos Knitted BagsThese bags in their organic shapes are part of Argentinean designer Ivana Crivos clothing and accessories creations and company called ‘Hedón’. Hand knit in Lycra, Crivos likes the melding of new technology with the traditional process. The priority for Crivos is that the material work well with the body, covering it and molding its shape to it. “I want my products, clothing or accessories, to transmit love, happiness and comfort,” says the designer. “My designs are basically about the human body, as well as thinking about the requirements of modern life.”

Slap Watches

Slap WatchIt may have become apparent by now that the three of us have a weakness for watches…or maybe time pieces in general. It’s not that we own that many of them, but we just tend to notice and appreciate them possibly more than most. Recently, Daniela spotted one of these Slap watches on someone’s wrist and was immediately smitten.

The Slap watch is a silicone watch that implements the mechanism of the spring coil bracelet popular in the 90s. It comes in nine, mostly bright, colors with interchangeable faces, creating 81 possible color combinations. Plus, at under $20, it seems very reasonably priced.

You can learn more about them and visit their online shop, here.

Jess Collett: Fabulous Hats

Jess Collett HatsAs a nod to today’s Royal Wedding, here are some fabulous hats by Jess Collett, the London milliner who was initially to design the mother-of-the-bride’s hat, until, apparently, there was a change of dress plans last week, when the hat was no longer necessary. Nevertheless, these wooden hats by Collett, likely to be a departure from the unveiled royal-ish design, are really spectacular. Sculptural works of art!

Concrete

Concrete Trend ObjectsThere seem to be an awful lot of things cropping up made of concrete, lately. I’ve always found the seemingly cold material rather warm. Maybe it’s the urbanite in me.

Wearable Foods by Sung Yeon Ju

Korean artist Sung Yeon Ju made these dresses from fruits and vegetables as part of an ongoing project of constructed art forms made with food that she started two years ago. (Click on photo for more detail.)

“This series of her work forces viewers to defy the actual meaning, the functionalities, and the aspects of what clothing signifies in our lives. The essence of clothing and food has been reinterpreted. Each element does not fulfill its own role and yet, each suggests an unconventional and even contradicting role – un-wearable clothing that is made out of the materials that do not last.
