Italian artist Igor Scalisi Palminteri from Palermo has always been fascinated by religiosity. For his series of sculptures titled Hagiographies, Palminteri transformed statues of saints, purchased in the street markets of Palermo, into superheroes by repainting the sacred works with bright acrylic paint, masking their faces and converting their traditional robes into capes and superhero garb bearing their recognizable symbols. Make of it what you will…
beautiful. simply genius.
Superheroes are the religious icons of the 21st century, and you’re apparently the first to recognize it!
I like this but he’s not the first :
i love it…is it possible to buy?
@Can: You can try getting in touch with the artist via his facebook or myspace pages to ask him.

I’m not sure what’s the intention of the artist. I have a great love for sacred images and the Blessed Mother. It’s so heartbreaking to see the sacred images being treated in this manner.
